2010年9月私たちはChauncy Maple[E:ship]プロジェクトに賛同し、寄付させて頂きました。
その続報です。中央アフリカにあるマラウイという国があります。その5分の１をしめているマラウイ湖で医療移動船として活躍すべく、寄付を募り、修繕を行っているのがこのプロジェクトです。
1898年に建造されたChauncy Maple号はアフリカで最も古い船ですので、なかなかすぐに・・・というわけにはいきません。が、少しずつすすんでいます。
その一部を紹介いたします。
Work underway
Meanwhile work has begun on the renovation of Chauncy Maples: all the broken and rotten material has been stripped out and the relatively modern superstructure has been removed. The hull has been repaired in the Monkey Bay drydock. She has now been winched up onto the slipway ready for a complete refit with new superstructure, engines, generators and medical equipment. Many companies are donating services or giving us generous discounts on parts and supplies such as engines, aluminium, paint and flooring. Over the coming three months most of the steel work, including the creation of new tanks, will be completed.
